The click of the conference room door closing behind Liv echoed in my ears. I stood there for a moment, my fingers still tingling from where they’d briefly explored her wet heat, the taste of her mouth lingering on my lips. My body thrummed with a potent mix of satisfaction and frustration.

I’d be lucky if I didn’t have blue balls by the end of the day.

That kiss was desperate and needy, a confirmation that whatever this was between us was more than just a product of tequila and handcuffs. Liv matched my greedy wanting tit for tat, and that thrilled me but also scared the hell out of me. For a few stolen minutes, it felt like the other night, when the barriers between us crumbled, the years of rivalry forgotten.

But then she pulled away, that familiar guarded look returning to her eyes. The reminder that this was Liv, the woman who built walls around her heart higher than any corporate ladder, slammed into me like a cold shower.

“We should get back to work,” she’d said, her voice breathless but firm.

And just like that, the magic was gone, replaced by the stark reality of our situation. We were coworkers, rivals, competitors, vying for the same prizes in this fishbowl of an advertising firm. A few stolen kisses in a conference room didn’t change that.

Or did it?

I ran a hand through my hair, trying to tame the unruly strands that mirrored the chaos inside me. I wanted her. God, how I wanted her. But I also wanted to respect her boundaries, to give her the space she clearly needed.

But space was a luxury I couldn’t afford. Not when flashes of memories kept searing my brain, her taste, her smell, her small but voluptuous frame in my arms.

Every image triggered a constant, disconcerting ache.

I stalked back to my desk, frustration mounting with every step. I needed to redirect, find something to channel this restless energy, this burning need that threatened to consume me and highjacked my ability to concentrate. Every other thought drifted back to Liv. I wanted to pull her into the nearest empty conference room again and lose myself in her over and over.

I tried to distract myself with work, but it was a wasted effort. The computer screen blurred before my eyes, Liv’s face, flushed and wanting, intruding on my thoughts. The soft little mewls she made as her fingers clawed into my shoulders, the way her thighs fell open just a little wider, begging for me to give her what she needed.

I scowled, my pants tightening to an uncomfortable degree.

Damn it, I was in trouble. Deep, maddening, terrifying trouble. I’d finally admitted to myself I’d fallen for Liv Lancaster, my nemesis, the woman who’d been a thorn in my side for months and months…

And she was running fucking scared.

That was the truth of things right now. The reality I needed to acknowledge.

I couldn’t even blame her. In her anxious mind, we were just a disaster waiting to happen. A walking HR violation.
